Jeddah, also spelled Jiddah, is a city in the western part of Saudi Arabia. It's the second biggest city, after Riyadh, the capital. Jeddah isn't far away from Mecca, Islam's holiest city. Jeddah is the gateway to Mecca. And instead of that Jeddah is regarded as the most liberal and cosmopolitan city in Saudi Arabia.
Jeddah is also much more ethnical mixed than any other Saudi city, this is because of the gateway to Mecca and the oil boom that brought thousands of (non) Muslims to work here. All non-Muslims are resident expatriate workers.
Jeddah has a big history of trading and is the commercial capital of Saudi Arabia and because of it's geographical location the commercial centre of the Middle East.
Temperatures range from 15°C (59°F) to 25°C (77°F) in winter and from 30°C (86°F) up to over 40°C (104°F) in summer.
